Dermaroller

Would you like to improve the appearance of acne scars or stretch marks? Perhaps you have sun-damaged skin or fine lines and wrinkles and would like your skin to look smoother, clearer and healthier?

Micro-skin needling with the Genuine™ Dermaroller is a fantastic treatment that stimulates your body’s natural healing process to encourage the production of collagen and elastin. As well as making your skin thicker and giving it a smoother appearance, many people are delighted to see a dramatic improvement to their acne scars or stretch marks. The Genuine™ Dermaroller can also be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and sun damage, as well as tightening large pores.

Treatment with a dermaroller requires no downtime, and is suitable for all skin types and tones.

FAQs

  • How does a dermaroller work?

The GenuineTM Dermaroller is one of the leading micro skin-needling devices. Cylindrical shaped and covered with thousands of tiny micro-needles, we gently roller the dermaroller over the treatment area to create thousands of tiny pinpricks in your skin. Each pinprick or microscopic channel is approximately 0.1mm in width, which means that they quickly close over and heal. This procedure breaks down old scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new skin cells, prompting the body to produce elastin and collagen, both of which are essential to plumper, younger looking skin, as well as new capillaries for improved blood supply.

When used on acne scars and stretch marks, the GenuineTM Dermaroller can encourage the skin to heal and rebuild, minimising the appearance of imperfections and evening out the texture of your skin. Studies have shown a 70-80% improvement in scars.

Micro skin-needling is a popular alternative to laser skin resurfacing.

  • What areas can a dermaroller be used to treat?

We can treat all areas of the face, neck and body using a dermaroller. Some areas may require a different needle size to others, and sensitivity can vary from one part of the body to another.

  • What should I expect from the treatment?

Before we begin your dermaroller treatment, we will apply topical anaesthetic cream to the treatment area to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you. It can take up to an hour for this cream to work.

During the procedure itself, we gently roll the dermaroller medical device over your skin, working methodically to cover the entire area with micro-medical needle-columns (i.e. tiny pin pricks) in the skin.

A dermaroller treatment typically takes 30-45 minutes but will depend on the area being treated.

  • Is dermaroller treatment safe?

Very few side effects are associated with dermaroller treatment. Immediately after the procedure, you may find that your skin looks slightly red and feels tender, much like sunburn, but this should resolve itself within a few hours or sometimes days for larger needles.

We would advise against dermaroller treatment if you have an active skin infection, chronic skin disorder, blood clotting problems, eczema, psoriasis, or some other conditions.

  • What do I need to do after my dermaroller treatment?

We will give you clear instructions about your post-treatment care. We will typically apply Aloe Vera gel after the procedure to help soothe your skin. You should use tepid water to cleanse your skin until the redness has gone; pat the area dry and make sure your hands are clean when touching your face. You should avoid wearing make-up for 24 hours after the procedure, and we also recommend that you wear sunscreen to protect your skin.
